What do we stand for?
When it came to expanding The Gym, we knew that we wanted to build our values into the business. We are already a group of incredibly strong-willed women, but we wanted every aspect of the business to reflect that – including those businesses that choose to join us.

We are a business with a conscious
Inclusivity
Diversity and being inclusive are at the front of what we do
Creativity
Our goal is to foster and support creativity

Our story
Amy Christie, founder of the award-winning local hair salon, Profile Hair, has 20 years’ experience in the hair and beauty industry. Along with her team, she developed the concept behind The Gym, initially opening at 33 Huntly Street in 2018! In 2020, Amy and the team expanding, opening the four storey building at 39 Huntly Street.
The Gym is a place where Amy’s passion for hair, fashion and beauty really comes to life. The Gym Aberdeen is described as a place where all your inner and outer beauty needs will be met, all delivered with a level of customer service that is second to none.
The Gym is a make-up bar and hair salon, with a twist, offering beauty services, fitness classes, makeup masterclasses and lifestyle events. The Gym will be hosting social events, workshops and pop-up events, showcasing incredible local businesses – likening itself to something of a modern-day woman’s institute.
Inspired by the days when women used to visit salons weekly to ensure they were always camera ready and looking their best, and by the modern age of social media, The Gym is a space to make friends whilst enjoying the secluded garden with a drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) before or whilst getting pampered. A perfect place to get preened for your big day, night or even just to feel confident for the next job interview or date night.
We know that outer beauty isn’t all that matters, which is why we’re shouting from the rooftops that we’re not just a beauty parlour – but we are a business with a conscious.
Amy and the team are firm believers that you must feel good inside to look great on the outside. The Gym has previously hosted group therapy and one-to-one sessions with a qualified therapist. The Gym believe that to begin to offer counselling in such a unique and comfortable setting will put ladies at ease and help remove the fear and stigma that comes alongside mental health. We hope to encourage people to realise it’s OK to seek help when needed. While The Gym isn’t currently offering counselling, it is certainly not something they would shy away from again in the future.
Your mental health isn’t the only thing that’s important, we’re here to look after your physical health too. Our space has been home to various Pilates and fitness instructors, and is available for those looking for a space to hold small-sized fitness classes. Our city centre space is convenient, has on street parking, and is available in the evenings.
Sustainability is key
When expanding The Gym, the team didn’t want to to just become another salon. They wanted it to be a space where creativity could flourish, inclusivity was at the forefront and sustainability is always the aim of the game.
Through offering recycling schemes and refillable products, The Gym has looked at ways to improve their environmental impact and strive toward a better, more conscientious world.
